5 Easy Ways to Lose Weight – by Snacking!

You have probably heard time and again that snacking is the bane of every (attempted) dieter’s existence. Snacking has been consistently been scapegoated as the main reason for weight gain and many a diet book has sworn against it.

But what if I were to tell you that snacking can actually help you to lose weight?

It can and it will!

Here are 5 simple ways to lose weight from snacking, without exercising or strict dieting, and to keep it off permanently:

1. Pack Fruit.

This is one of the simplest and most effective steps you can take towards your ideal body. Most of the times people snack is when they are either too hungry and have left too much time between meals, or if they are bored or feeling flat and want an energy rush. At the time, sugary treats seem to fit the bill for this, particularly around 3pm on a Monday afternoon! But these only lead to a sugar crash later on – and significant weight gain over the long term.

Instead, be prepared. Pack fruit in your handbag or to take to work with you each day. In fact, over pack! I do not believe in placing limits on fruit or vegetable intake. Yes, fruits have (natural) sugars in them, and everything is best in moderation. But you are far better off spending your mental energy on restricting refined sugars instead of cutting down on natural vitamins and nutrients. If you often find yourself craving some sweet biscuits after lunch and usually run out of food, this trick will save you. Pack 2 or 3 pieces of fruit – and always reach for them in times of hunger.

By preparing healthy snacks for yourself, you will resist sugary foods and will find yourself losing weight in no time!

2. Save Half For Later.

Once again, this simple weight loss trick can see you shedding those pesky pounds before your eyes. This comes down to portion sizes. As you will find throghout the MMDR, some of the easiest things you can do will yield the greatest results. And this tip is no exception!

Basically, it is as follows: during your main meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner), separate your serve and put half aside for later. Why? We often give ourselves and others much greater portions than we actually need – or want. However, once you start eating, it becomes difficult to stop!

To save yourself from the pain of tearing yourself away from delicious food, do it before you start. Even before you sit down, cut down your portion and seal it away. This way, you will have a ready-made snack for when you feel hungry between meals and you will never feel so hungry that you need to binge on sugary and fatty foods. It is a win-win situation!

3. Fill Up on Veggies.

When it comes to easy and quick weight loss, vegetables are your best friend. It may not sound glamorous at first, but there are ways to make snacking on vegetables fun and delicious! And if you get into this habit, you will find that the weight simply falls off.

The best way to do this is to always have vegetables readily available in moments of weakness. For example, having a carrot pre-cut or a lettuce ready-made makes it much easier to snack on something healthy than if you need to make it once you are already hungry. In short, you should aim to make it as easy as possible for you to choose the healthy option. This will see you losing weight before you know it.

So, next time you feel like snacking, opt for something fresh and ready-made (by you) and eat until your heart is content. You will feel your snacking cravings satiated and you will be nourishing your body at the same time.

4. Give Yourself the Healthy Option First

This is one weight loss trick which worked incredibly well for me – and will lose weight for you too. As you have seen from the previous three points, it is incredibly important to have fresh, healthy ingredients readily available to you for when the hunger pangs hit. At the same time, there are some mind tricks you can use to help you to make snacking work for you. And one of these involves utilising a small amount of delayed gratification.

In my opinion, diets that restrict whole food groups will always fail – as you will see in the Mini-Me Diet Revolution. We do not work well with limitations and restrictions, and these programs only set you up for failure. But it doesn’t have to be that way! When you feel like a snack, particularly something sugary or fatty, don’t tell yourself, “No.” Instead, tell yourself, “Later, after I have this piece of fruit (or vegetables!)”.

This way, you are not restricting yourself, only distracting yourself. And as the Mini-Me Diet Revolution shows you, there are innumerable ways to make eating healthily fun! The funny thing is, once you have had your distractor food, you may well find that you don’t need the sugary ‘treat’ anymore. And from here, the only way is weight loss!

5. Make it Fun!

One of the best ways to lose weight easily and enjoyably is to make it fun. Let’s face it, no one ever got anything done properly that they didn’t really want to do! If you try to force yourself to do something that you genuinely aren’t interested in, it just won’t happen. Or perhaps it will for a little while, but the results won’t last. Instead, as the Mini-Me Diet Revolution shows you, you need to be on board to make it happen.

So what is the best way to lose weight while still having fun?

Make it a game for yourself! Keep a big bowl of fruit on your kitchen table, keep your fridge stocked full of vegetables and your cupboards bursting with wholemeal breads and cereals. If you make a point of always having nutritious foods around you, you will keep them in the front of your mind when you need a snack. On top of that, fresh fruits only have a limited time span, so you will find that you will need to eat them quickly while they’re sweet! Keep tabs on how many pieces of fruit and veggies you eat each day (on average, aim for 2-3 and 5-7 respectively) and if you haven’t hit your target by mid-afternoon snack time, you had better catch up, pronto!

These 5 easy ways to lose weight with snacking will see you shedding pounds before you know it, while still being able to live your life and stay satiated. They don’t require any additional exercise, just a few small tweaks in your behavior that will bring tremendous results.
